Well, it's finally becoming real. I found out about 3 months ago that I received a fellowship to study Arabic at Yarmouk University in Jordan, but until very recently the trip has seemed very far away. Now, having spent the last week going from store to store, buying everything I think I'll need in Jordan, I'm finally beginning to realize that I'll be leaving home in 4 short days! I'll meet the rest of my group (about 30 people)and then fly out of JFK late Friday night.
On Saturday I'll be halfway across the world.
It's difficult to juggle the tangle of emotions going on in my head about the trip. I get the privilege of living for a short time in a part of the world that has long fascinated me, but being apart from family and friends won't be easy. Hopefully this blog will help me make sense of my experiences and allow me to share them with all of you. I don't know how regularly I'll update this, but hopefully I can make a habit of posting something a couple of times a week.
Well that's all for this inaugural post. Stay tuned for the interesting stuff that will come when I arrive in Jordan!
